Gif Tutorial

Welcome to my gif Tutorial.

In this tutorial I will teach you how to make a gif. Duh.

Let’s start with the video.

Usually I convert the videos that I have to mp4 because my Photoshop can’t open videos in avi format, great.

You can easily find a video converter online you know, go to Google, search for “mp4 converter” and you’ll find one.

Now that you have the video you will now open Photoshop (that’s essential) and you’ll go to File>Import>Video Frames to Layers.

This window will come up once you do that. Select “Make Frame Animation”, “Selected Range Only” and check the “Limit to Every _ Frames” box.

To select the scene you want to gif click in the middle of the grey bar and just click the arrows to see the video play. When you find the scene you want to gif hold shift and click the forward arrow to select the scene, stop holding shift once you have the scene you want and click OK.

This will show up once you click OK. Now at first it might not show you that section with all the frames so go to Window>Animation and I’m sure that it’ll show the Animation section now.

Now look at Dylan McDermott’s face, he’s so beautiful.

Delete the frames you don’t want to show up in your gif and of course leave the ones you want to gif.

Now that you have the desired frames go to Image>Image Size and put the width at 500. If you want to crop the gif click this icon  and just crop the image at your taste.

Once you have all the frames you want, select them all and go to the little down arrow in one of the frames and put 1 (or 0,08 secs. many people put that).

Okay now with the coloring.

Go to Actions and click the “Create New Action” button which would be that little paper shit.

This will show up, chose a name for the action (I chose Action 1 lol) and select your desired Function Key which will be the key that you will click to put the Action in the selected layer. Click Record (ATTENTION: You have to have the selected layer on when you make a new Action, like this:

Okay do that.)

Once you click Record you’ll go to Image>Adjustments and just mess with it.

Now that you have your frame like you wanted stop recording the Action and go to the Animation window and select a frame and click the Function Key you set to your Action.

It’ll go from that

to this. (It looks SO MUCH worse than this picture)

Do that to every frame in the Animation window.

So now that you have the color of the frames as you want go to File>Save For Web & Devices and this will show up.

As you can see (no you can’t see shit) the gif is 979kB so that’s below the Tumblr limit so we’re good with it, now if your gif is bigger than 1MB than you will have to mess with the Colors.

So go to Colors and select 256 or 128 or 64 or even 32 (the gif may look like shit in just 32 colors but okay), chose one that lowers the gif size. Also if you go to that bar that says Diffusion you will have more to chose from, changing that can also change the size of the gif, I always chose Diffusion but many people chose Pattern although to me Pattern just….no. Oh and the bar that says Selective (or it can say Perceptual or Adaptive) that can also change the gif size. I chose most of the times Adaptive, this time I used Selective because of the gif size.

Once the gif is below 1MB and you are fine with it click Save.

This was the final result:

Now this must be confusing as fuck and I wanted to explain more things and the gif looks pretty bad but I had a few friends that wanted to know how to make gifs so this one’s for you guys, you assholes.

Also if you have questions hit me up at two five four four seven one five five two

No, just go to my ask box and ask me whatever you want.
